ONE MORNING IN THE VALLEY
EXT. DAY – VINELAND BOULEVARD, NORTH HOLLYWOOD A quick establishing shot: Vineland Boulevard, south of Moorpark, looking north. The camera sits on the surface of the street, in the right-most lane of this three-lane street. Closeup on a PLASTIC BOTTLE full of an unidentified green liquid. Next to it in the road is a single green casual SLIPPER. Caption: NORTH HOLLYWOOD – LOS ANGELES 8:18 A.M. MUSIC: Perez Prado "Que Rico El Mambo" A screech of tires as a CREAM MERCEDES FOUR-DOOR SEDAN (in the left lane) and a BLUE TOYOTA PICKUP (in the center lane) roar by, going north. They are dead even with each other and honking incessantly. PEDESTAL UP: The Toyota is coming up on a slower car in the center lane, and the Toyota immediately swerves into the right lane (without signaling) to pass. The GUY IN THE TOYOTA gives the GUY IN THE MERCEDES a dirty look. The GUY IN THE MERCEDES sneers. They approach two cars in the center and right lane. The GUY IN THE MERCEDES intentionally slows down to match the slower cars’ pace, preventing the GUY IN THE TOYOTA from passing. The GUY IN THE TOYOTA flips off the GUY IN THE MERCEDES. The GUY IN THE MERCEDES laughs and toots his horn. We’re coming up to the six-way intersection at Vineland and Camarillo. The light is green. The GUY IN THE MERCEDES accelerates hard and pulls ahead. The light turns yellow. The GUY IN THE TOYOTA brakes suddenly, veers left to pass the slower cars and burns rubber to beat the light. He is too late. He runs it anyway, barely missing another car. The GUY IN THE MERCEDES laughs to himself as the GUY IN THE TOYOTA pulls up beside him again. Sudden BURSTS OF RED PAINT on the Mercedes’ passenger-side window as the GUY IN THE TOYOTA shoots paint pellets from an airgun pistol. The GUY IN THE MERCEDES is flabbergasted. The GUY IN THE TOYOTA hoots with glee. Over his shoulder we see the GUY IN THE MERCEDES lowering his passenger-side window. He too has a gun. This one’s a Glock. The GUY IN THE TOYOTA stops laughing. They come up to the intersection at Magnolia. They run the light. Total confusion. Gunshots ring out. Turning cars swerve and hit stationary cars. Closeup on the "Carls Jr." sign – it gets hit by bullets. Closeup on a PEDESTRIAN on the traffic island – he gets paintballed in the chest. There’s a FILM CREW shooting a commercial down a side street. The crew turn at the noise. The GUY IN THE MERCEDES and the GUY IN THE TOYOTA careen down the street. More shots ring out as the GUY IN THE MERCEDES tries to shoot out a tire on the Toyota. The GUY IN THE TOYOTA grabs an emergency flare from under the seat. He cracks it open, lights it and throws it in the window of the Mercedes. The GUY IN THE MERCEDES keeps shooting. The GUY IN THE TOYOTA throws his cell phone at the Mercedes passenger window. The window breaks. The GUY IN THE MERCEDES shoots and misses, hitting the one of several MINI COOPERS parked outside a body shop. The GUY IN THE TOYOTA throws a REEL OF FILM at the Mercedes. It hits the door and dents it. As both cars race north past Chandler Boulevard, the GUY IN THE MERCEDES shoots and shatters the rear driver’s-side window on the Toyota. The GUY IN THE TOYOTA throws an OSCAR STATUETTE at the Mercedes. It misses the open window, hits the door jamb and breaks apart. A piece of Oscar hits THE GUY IN THE MERCEDES in the face. He screams. He loses control. The Mercedes swerves. The Toyota screeches and turns right on Burbank Boulevard. The Mercedes veers right. Dead ahead is Circus Liquor. A giant smiling clown in full face paint is mounted on a pole in the parking lot. The GUY IN THE MERCEDES looks up. He screams and slams on his brakes. Cut to LONG SHOT as the Mercedes smacks the concrete base of the Circus Liquor sign and crumples slightly. After a few beats, from out of nowhere a HOT AIR BALLOON glides into the intersection and lands amid the confused spectators. A SPECTATOR pulls out a disposable camera and flashes a picture of the balloon. MUSIC: Up and out. END. |
